The average cost of a wedding in the United States in 2024 was around $33,000. However the cost can ran from $14,000-$49,000. And $50k plus for the big ballers out there.
As I got older I always knew I didn’t want a large wedding. I come from a relatively large family and my husband came from the complete opposite. I guess you can say opposites truly attract. As Nico (my husband) and I started discussing marriage the idea of having a courthouse wedding was always floating in my mind.
Fast forward a few years later February 3rd, 2024 Nico proposed and I was a fiancé! Our proposal took me by surprise. All of a sudden the thoughts of planning a wedding came rushing in along with the never ending questions from family and friends about a wedding. Back in my mind I always knew we were going to the courthouse to get married.
I even went to a bridal expo with my mom, sister, and aunties to scope potential vendors and didn’t set a single appointment. The whole time, my Auntie Chelsea was saying, “Taty is secretly going to get married and not have a wedding, we are only here for the fun”. I’m somewhat unpredictable and unorthodox when it comes to certain things, so the whole time, I was laughing to myself because she was right.
That was February 25, 2024; two months later on April 8th Nico and I tied the knot only letting our immediate family know.
My husband and I still went through the process of viewing our venue (Downtown West Palm Beach), finding a photographer, dress and tux shopping, hair & makeup, etc. Still, we did not take on the extra expenses of having a traditional wedding while walking down the aisle.
Why We Choose the Courthouse
Nico and I decided to marry at the courthouse because we did not want to add the unwanted debt. We have plans to live a debt-free lifestyle so that we can use our income in other ways. Now, in the future, we do plan on having a wedding once we renew our vows and I have the exact venue in mind.
Looking back on April 8th, 2024, I would not change the way my husband and I became a matrimony. The vibes were incredible, the weather was perfect, and now I get to enjoy life with my forever debt-free.
